Convert a Chase bank statement to Excel
Chase lets you download recent activity as CSV, but older months are often only available as PDF statements. Turn those PDFs into spreadsheets and QuickBooks files.

Checking and credit card statements
Checking statements list each transaction with a signed amount and running balance, followed by a daily ending balance table. RowBalance reads the transaction detail, skips the summary tables, and checks the beginning balance plus transactions against the ending balance. On credit card statements, purchases and payments are signed correctly for import.
CSV, QFX or PDF: which Chase download to use
The account activity page offers a download of recent transactions in file types such as CSV, QFX or QBO and OFX, for a limited recent window; Chase may change the options and the window. That file has no opening or closing balance. Monthly PDF statements under Statements & documents go back much further and carry the balances, so use them for older months, for statements you need as the official record, and for reconciling.
Layout gotchas
Chase checking statements print a summary box first (beginning balance, deposits and additions, ATM and debit card withdrawals, checks paid, fees, ending balance). Transactions come later in sections, and the date column shows month/day only, so the year must come from the statement period. Page headers and continuation notes repeat on every page and are skipped.
Get the PDFs from Chase
Sign in at chase.com, open the account, choose Statements & documents, and download each month as a PDF. Then drop them all above. Paid plans convert a full year in one batch and merge them into one file.
How to do it
