Banks export CSV files in many layouts. RowBalance detects the date, description, amount and balance columns and writes a QuickBooks-ready .qbo file.

Preamble lines before the header, semicolon or tab delimiters, separate debit and credit columns, DR/CR type columns, US and UK dates, and European 1.234,56 amounts are all handled. When the file has a running balance column, each row is checked against it.

How to do it

  1. Drop your statements above. They are read in your browser and every balance is checked.
  2. Fix any flagged row in the editor, then choose QuickBooks (.qbo).
  3. QuickBooks Online: Transactions › Bank transactions › Upload from file. QuickBooks Desktop: File › Utilities › Import › Web Connect Files.

Excel and CSV are free for up to 5 pages a day. QuickBooks, Xero and OFX files and batch conversion are on paid plans, from a $9 one-off pass: see pricing or go back to the converter.

Questions

Why convert CSV to QBO instead of importing the CSV?

QBO files import as a bank feed with unique transaction IDs, so QuickBooks matches and de-duplicates them. CSV imports need a column mapping every time and have no duplicate protection.

Is CSV to QBO free?

QBO export is part of the paid plans, starting with a $9 one-off pass. Converting to Excel or CSV is free for up to 5 pages a day.
